But resist him [the devil], firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world –

1 Peter 5:9

We have all heard people explain the reason why they did something wrong with this classic excuse, “The devil made me do it.” That is the language of irresponsibility. The devil is a tempter but we have a choice to either yield to him or to resist him. Sin is a result of choosing the ways of evil over the ways of God. Somewhere along the line, you chose to give the devil a place in your thoughts. He merely took advantage of the opportunity you provided.

In Christ, you have all the resources and power you need to live a victorious life every single day. If you’re not living it, it’s your choice. When you leave your door open to the devil and decide not to resist his temptations and deceptions, you make yourself weak and vulnerable to evil. And if you continue to allow him access to your life, he gains a measure of control over you.

Many Christians today who have lost control in some areas of their life wallow in helplessness even though they can resist the devil by the grace of the Lord and in the power of the Holy Spirit. They get frustrated with themselves and their lack of willpower to resist temptations and live a holy life. Instead of getting frustrated, all they need is to renounce their sins and boldly resist the devil and command him to leave their life in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer:

Thank You, Lord, for the victory you have given me by the blood of the lamb and the word of my testimony.Scriptural Reading: 1 Peter 5:5-11
