That is an important step in our relationship with the Lord. Maybe you have been struggling with your temper for years, and find that the more you try to use your own will, the worse you become. Or you are struggling with over-powering addictions — to sex, pornography, food, alcohol, tobacco or narcotics. You’ve said to yourself again and again and again, “I’m going to overcome this thing!” But it keeps controlling you. How do you overcome it? It takes determination, but it takes something more than that. It requires an act of God. To root out controlling habits from your life:
• You must admit that your habits have become unmanageable and that you need help. Unless you accept responsibility for your weaknesses, you cannot experience deliverance.
• You must surrender fully to the Lord. That requires daily offering of your body to the Lord for Him to give you strength moment by moment.
• You must take spiritual authority over all your addictions and command their controlling power to be broken from your life.
• You must stay in the word of God and live by the power of the Holy Spirit.
