In the Apostle Paul’s day, goods shipped from one place to another would be stamped with a wax seal and imprinted with a signet ring, bearing a unique mark of ownership. The same was true of an important document from a ruler. No one would dare open it other than the one to whom the goods or documents were addressed.As a part of the great work of salvation, God sent the Holy Spirit to live in us as a seal on us. By giving us His Holy Spirit, God has placed His mark of ownership on us, making us His own forever. This mark of ownership is also an injunction against anyone tampering with our lives. And when the devil comes to wreak havoc on our lives, he is stopped cold by that seal of ownership. He sees an imprint on us that says, “Property of Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God!” We are under divine covering.
As believers, we live under God’s jurisdiction. We are God’s property. He has marked us out with His royal seal and set us apart from all others. We are surrounded by His presence and His power. The Holy Spirit is our guarantee that God will keep His promise to us as we walk before Him in faithfulness.
That is your heritage. You are God’s property — protected and secured in time and in eternity. He has promised to keep you from evil and to bring you safely to your expected end.
Prayer: Thank you, heavenly Father, for placing your seal of ownership on my life. I am yours forever.
