As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

1 Peter 4:10

Service for God takes place in many different ways: different believers will use the various gifts in unique manners, by serving in a church as well as the community. We can walk out into our society and find thousands of ways our combination of skill and gifting can be applied. Some opportunities will fit us perfectly, while others will be more suited for another servant. The most obvious place to begin exercising our gift is in an area that interests us.

Whatever the type of service – whether it involves sweeping floors or helping some young children with their school work -the Holy Spirit will use our spiritual gift to spread the Gospel and thereby bring glory to God. But the benefits also extend to believers. The people who enjoy life most are those who are obeying the call to serve and making their life count for the Lord.

Any person who knows Christ as Saviour has a responsibility to use his or her God-given talents and gifts for His glory. Serving the Lord is not a suggestion but a command. To maximize our success as servants, the very same Spirit who imparts our spiritual gift helps us to in putting it to use. He shows us the areas of need that we must respond to and inspires us to serve in the most meaningful way.

When the motivation to reach our full potential for the Lord is mixed with the desire to serve with our spiritual gifts, we become a powerful force in God’s kingdom.

Prayer:

Lord, I put all that I am and have at your service; help me be a good steward of all the resources you have given to me.
