2 Kings 3:11
Elisha was introduced by the servant of the king as the one “who poured water on the hands of Elijah.” It was not a very dignified portfolio that anyone would hasten to put on their call card. Service was the foundation on which Elisha’s ministry was built. “Pouring water” was his start but it was not his end. By the time Elijah died, Elisha had come into his own with a solid reputation as a credible prophet. In this instance, he was able to accurately give the three kings the mind of the Lord about their impending battle with the Moabites.
Samuel apprenticed under Eli, Timothy served Paul while Ruth learnt under Naomi. If you find yourself serving and understudying a mentor, see it as a privilege and an opportunity to improve. Some of what you do may not always be high profile initially but stay focused on the ultimate end and serve faithfully. Keep ‘pouring the water’ with diligence and as you do, God will reward you with promotion.
