Saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me. —

Matthew 21:2

Today as Christians all over the world celebrate Palm Sunday, which commemorates the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, we want to glean a few lessons about Jesus from the biblical account.

Jesus was keenly aware of His mission. He knew what His life was about and the prophecies concerning His life. He had a sense of timing and history. Many of the prophecies were not dated but Jesus had a sense of the appropriate time for each of them. There is nothing more disastrous than doing the right thing at the wrong time. Jesus acted with intention and purpose.

Jesus planned for His mission. When you know your mission, you must plan for it. He did not wait for events to overtake Him or hope that things would fall in place for him. Jesus arranged for the donkey ahead of time and gave specific instructions about location, state and mode of engagement. If our Lord was such an orderly and meticulous planner, how much more should we be who follow Him. Miracles cannot be a substitute for planning.

He anticipated obstacles to His mission. He planned for possible questions or objections the disciples might encounter and provided answers. Tell them “the Lord has need of it.” Have a ready answer for objections. Jesus prepared His team to deal with potential challenges.

Jesus submitted Himself and fulfilled His mission. He knew the consequences but He still went ahead. He had to die in order to resurrect. He became all that He was born to be. He finished what He had set out to do. He paid the full price for His assignment.

Prayer:

Father, I pray for wisdom for orderly execution of my mission.
