Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” —

John 18:37

Jesus’ encounter with Pilate was a pivotal moment a few hours before His crucifixion. In 1 Timothy 6:13 Paul writes, “I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate.” What did Jesus say? Why did it qualify as a good confession?

There were four questions Pilate asked. Each of them was an invitation to Jesus to compromise. Satan tried to compromise Jesus at the beginning of His earthly ministry. Pilate was doing same at the end.

Are you a king?

This referred to His Identity or Position. Jesus boldly declared that he was a king, even in the face of threats.

What have You done?

Pilate was interested in His defence. Jesus focused instead on His Possession or Inheritance. Jesus responded that He had a kingdom and a superior one at that. He had been maltreated, beaten and disgraced but it did not change His confession.

What is the truth?

Jesus confirmed that He had been born for a greater PURPOSE, which was to bear witness to the truth.

Where are You from?

Jesus initially refused to answer the question of ORIGIN but reminded Pilate in verse 11 that His authority was from above.

Do not abandon your faith confession. There is a purpose to everything happening around you. The circumstances around you are orchestrated to fulfil a certain divine purpose.

Faith Confession:

I AM A KING! I HAVE A KINGDOM! I AM HERE FOR A PURPOSE!
