THE ‘INVINCIBLES’

No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.

Joshua 1:5

Whenever you think about Iron Mike Tyson, you are likely to remember the young man who took the sporting world by storm when he became the youngest heavyweight boxing champion of the world. This was a ruthless ‘fighting machine’ who totally annihilated each opponent in the ring. His chain of endless knockouts became so predictable that at a point, the pre-fight discussions tended to focus much more on how long the latest opponent would last in the ring.

While many attributed his success to his physique and ruthless streak, Tyson often maintained that his greatest weapon was Cus D’Amato, his mentor and coach who literally transformed him from a ghetto brawler into a world champion. It is notable that the death of D’Amato coincided with a period where Tyson lost his way and experienced a cataclysmic downward spiral into oblivion.

Who is in your corner? Who is your cheerleader? Who is always bringing out the best in you? God is your ever present source of strength. He that is greater than the best coach or mentor you can ever find is on your side. He says He will never leave you nor forsake you. In our passage for today, He assured Joshua at the beginning of his reign that no one would be able to stand before him throughout his life, and everywhere he trod was going to become his inheritance. The assurance from God is that because He is on our side, you and I are ‘invincibles’ or ‘unbeatables.’

Prayer:

Thank You, Lord, that you are my ever present help and my source of victory in all my battles.
