For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds. —

2 Corinthians 10:4

The passage sets out the framework for our warfare and identifies four kinds of strongholds.

Arguments:

This is a system of logic that supports every position. The world has developed its own sophisticated arguments in support of adultery, ungodliness, sexual perversion and fornication.

High Things:

This is arrogant opposition to God. The world seeks to present themselves as wise and everything about God as foolish.

Thoughts:

These are dominant ideas and philosophies. Every group or system has its own philosophy or thought patterns.

Disobedience:

This is unyielding stubbornness. It is obstinately persisting in wrongdoing.

How to Deal With Strongholds 1 Corinthians talks about our weapons being effective for pulling down strongholds. God’s word and the Holy Spirit are our two main weapons.

God’s Word.

John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 8:32 says, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Jesus is the Word of God. When we believe His word, we believe Him. His Word in us is His life in us. Don’t counter human arguments with logic: use the word of God.

The Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:18 says we are being transformed into Christ’s image from glory to glory by the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit gives us life. No matter the addiction or manifestation of the power of the enemy, the Holy Spirit is able to break it. He progressively transforms us into the image of Christ — His humility, forgiveness and long suffering nature.

Prayer:

Lord, may every stronghold in my life be broken by Your word and the power of the Holy Spirit.
