But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfil it’s lusts. —

Romans 13:14

The overriding goal of the Christian should be to be more and more like Christ. This is not an event or an instant accomplishment. It is a journey of continuous transformation. We are not just to own Christ; we should actually put Him on. The two are not the same. Many people put on Christ only on Sundays or special occasions and remove Him right after.

What does it mean to put on Christ?

Submit yourself under His authority.

Yield your body, soul and spirit to Him.

Clothe yourself in His character.

People who see you must see Christ. They must see a difference in your life because of Jesus.

Showcase Him to the world.

Don’t be ashamed of your faith and your testimony. If unbelievers have no shame in putting on the world, we must have no shame in putting on Christ. Even our events, businesses and social activities must reflect Christ.

What does it mean to make no provision for the flesh?

Don’t patronise the things that promote temptation or sin. Don’t create an atmosphere where it is easy to be tempted. Romans 12:2 says, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” We must refuse to follow the trendy ways that lead to destruction. Instead, we must renew our minds.

Prayer:

Father, help me to put on the character of Christ and to showcase Him to the world.
