And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” –

Luke 2:13-14

Today is the last Sunday for the year 2020. What a year it has been! It has been the worst of years, and the best of years. There has been so much to mourn and so much to celebrate. Through it all, our God has been faithful. Our Lord has been the Unchanged One amidst all the changes; our Rock in a time of weariness, our Tower in a time of war.

In all the pains and sorrows of our lives, we give glory to God.

In all the uncertainties and worries of the year, we glory to God.

For all the joys and laughter we have experienced, Lord, receive your glory.

For all the miracles and deliverances of 2020, Lord we give thanks.

The Lord returns glory to those who give Him glory. God does not need us to give Him praise for Him to feel good about Himself. He is God all by Himself. He receives glory from us so that we can be qualified to receive glory from Him. In the end, everything we give to Him comes back to us. When we give glory to God in the highest, He responds with peace and goodwill to us.

Today, we join the angelic hosts to give God all the glory that is due Him. He is our dependable God who is faithful in all His ways. He is our safe refuge; the Rock that is higher than us. Our hearts find rest in His goodness.

As we prepare for the New Year, we proclaim peace on earth and goodwill to the human race.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, You are our Alpha and Omega. We give You all the glory. We worship You, our Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
