Genesis 3:15
The Lord determined there in the Garden of Eden that Satan’s power over mankind would be broken through the power of another human being – the seed of the woman.
God’s edict had four parts.
Enmity between the deceiver and the woman.
This is probably an explanation for some of the suffering that women have had to endure throughout history. We thank God that in Christ, there is total redemption for both women and men.
Enmity between the deceiver’s seed and the woman’s seed.
The seed of the deceiver includes evil spirits and all those whose father is the devil. The seed of the woman refers to a unique child born by a woman. The divine edict stated that there will be a battle between the seed of the woman – Christ, and the seed of the deceiver. The next statement tells us who would win in the battle between Christ and the forces of evil.
The woman’s seed shall bruise the deceiver’s head.
The woman’s seed is a male – He. The divine edict stated that a male child of a woman will destroy the power of Satan. Though sin came through the woman’s disobedience, redemption would also come through the woman’s obedience. Christ is the seed of the woman who came to crush Satan in order to deliver fallen mankind from bondage. Thank God, Christ has crushed the deceiver’s head – now we are free.
The deceiver shall bruise the heel of the woman’s seed.
This refers to the suffering of Christ. The deceiver instigated Christ’s torture and crucifixion. It was part of the redemptive plan for Christ to suffer and die and rise triumphantly. Of course, the deceiver had no clue into the plans of God and did not know that he was being used for his own defeat. In crushing the head of the deceiver, Christ was bruised.
Christmas is a celebration of the birth of the seed of the woman.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise of deliverance. I boldly declare that the head of the deceiver is crushed. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!Scripture Reading:
