Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. –

Luke 1:30-31

Two thousand years ago a young girl received a visitor from Heaven. The girl’s name was Mary. She was a normal pious Jewish girl, living a simple life in her village. The message of the angel from Heaven to Mary was the most flabbergasting news to ever reach any human ears.

The angel told Mary that she had been chosen by God to be the mother of the Son of God. She was going to be pregnant without any man’s involvement.

The angel announced that the name of Mary’s child to be born would be, JESUS. The Child’s name in Hebrew was Yeshua; meaning, Jehovah is our salvation. It was a name used for many Jewish boys. Yeshua is the same root out of which the name Joshua is derived.

Jesus left His glory in Heaven to live on earth. He stepped out of Eternity into time. It was necessary that He identify with the ones He wanted to save. He did could not legitimately save us from afar. He had to live where we lived so that we could live where He lived. He came to our world so that we could also go into His world.

That child changed the story of the human race. He is my Lord and Saviour and the reason for all the activities this Christmas season. Today, the name Jesus Christ is the most recognized name on earth. In His name sinners are made righteous. The name of Jesus heals the sick and mends broken hearts. In His name, the oppressed are set free and outcasts are brought back home.

In order to save us from our sins, Jesus had to come to where we are. He had to step down into the pit of our sinful world to lift us to the glory of His life in Heaven. Jesus was not the Saviour of angels. He was the Saviour of mankind. There is no sin too vile that He cannot save us from. Today, Jesus still saves people from their sins.

Jesus reintroduced us to God. After He had paid for our sins, He took our hand and walked into the corridors of heaven to introduce God to His new children.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us Your Son. I believe in my heart and boldly confess that Jesus is Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
