Luke 2:7
From the day that our first human parents disobeyed God in the garden of Eden, the Lord promised our redemption. The promise of deliverance was prophesied to come through the ‘seed of the woman’. Throughout the Old Testament, God inspired many actions and words to indicate how the seed of the woman would come into the world.
The Lord picked a young woman called Mary to be the woman to carry the promised seed. After carrying the ‘seed of the woman’ for nine months, and travelling a long journey, Mary delivered the Redeemer.
Christ was born in a manger. When Mary and Joseph got to Bethlehem, all the inns and lodges were occupied by travellers. Though Joseph was from Bethlehem, his family had lived all their lives in Nazareth and as such, did not have any family home to lodge. The only place left occupied was a manger. The Redeemer was born in the lowest accommodation available.
Today, as we remember the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, let us think for a moment about all the children of our world born in ‘mangers’. There are children born to impoverished and abandoned single mothers. Others are born into abusive relationships; many, into abject poverty. Though we cannot compare these children to Christ in any way, we can learn lessons from what happened two thousand years ago. We can show the love of Christ to those who are the least in our communities.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for honouring Your promise to us. We receive Christ into our hearts. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!Scripture Reading:
