Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God. –

Exodus 3:6

God’s dealings with us are not in isolation. He may call us alone, but He doesn’t see us alone. Moses was alone in the far side of the desert, in the presence of God. There was no one with him, yet when God introduced Himself to Moses, He did not start with Moses. He began with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Our God is a God of generations. What He does with us today is part of what He has been doing before us. The call of Moses was based on the call of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob.

If God had not called Abraham, there would be no Hebrew nation for Moses to belong to. If Isaac had not had Jacob, there would be no Israel. If Jacob had not gone to Egypt, there would be no people to be delivered. Though we experience God personally, He is known generationally.

Until we see God’s workings with us generationally, life will not make sense. We will see only isolated events that do not lead anywhere. But when we see God generationally, we then see His hand weaving all events in our lives to bring out a purpose far greater than the events themselves.

Watch what happened when God identified Himself with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Moses hid his face. It just dawned on him the awesomeness of the moment. His life was now connected. The dots were making sense.

Have you ever had a moment in your life when God joined the dots together so that all of a sudden you saw purpose and meaning in all that you had gone through? That’s what happened to Moses. He knew that he was now connected to everything God had been doing since Abraham.

Similarly, what God is doing with us now is connected with what He did through Christ, the Apostles and other Christians who have gone ahead of us.

May the transgenerational God, connect you to your purpose.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, You are a God of generations. Connect me to Your eternal purposes. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
