Genesis 2:19
Now, he was introduced to another aspect of his job. God created the animals, but he did not name them. He left that responsibility for Adam.
The Lord brought each animal He had made to Adam and asked him to give them names. And whatever Adam called it, that was it.
If Adam called an animal ‘ugly’, that was the tag the animal would carry for the rest of its life. If he called an animal ‘beautiful’, that was the tag the animal would carry for the rest of its life.
The name we give to the things that God brings our way establishes our relationship with each thing. For example, if God brought a lion to Adam, and Adam called it, ‘my killer’, it would position the lion as a predator over Adam. It would mean that at that point in time, Adam had given the lion power to kill him.
Whatever he called it, that was it. He determined the relationship he would have with all the other creations of God. If he called the lion, ‘my friend’, then that would be the relationship between himself and the lion.
We still have that power. Moses sent twelve spies to the Promised Land. The majority came back with a devastating report. They called the inhabitants of the land ‘giants’ and called themselves, ‘grasshoppers’. That established their relationship.
Don’t call a blessing a curse. Don’t call a friend an enemy. Don’t describe God’s favour as ‘nothing’. Whatever you call anything, that’s what it is.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me to call the things You bring my way as You want them to be called. I call myself ‘blessed and highly favoured’. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.Scripture Reading:
