"to render foul" (from bdeo, "to stink"), "to cause to be abhorred" (in the Sept. in Exo 5:21, Lev 11:43, Lev 20:25, etc.), is used in the Middle Voice, signifying "to turn oneself away from" (as if from a stench); hence, "to detest," Rom 2:22.
