Meaning

Behind, come Behind

"behind," is used only of place, e.g., Mat 9:20, Mar 5:27, Luk 8:44, Rev 4:6; as a preposition, Mat 15:23 ("after"); Luk 23:26; in Rev 5:1, RV, "on the back;" AV, "backside." See BACK.

"after" (see BACK, adverb).

"to come late, be behind," is translated "come behind," in 1Co 1:7; "to be behind," 2Co 11:5 and 2Co 12:11. See COME, No. 39, DESTITUTE, FAIL, LACK, NEED, B, Note, WANT, WORSE.

"to abide, endure," is once rendered "tarry behind," Luk 2:43. See ABIDE.

Note: In 1Th 3:1, the RV, "left behind" adequately expresses the verb kataleipo.
