Bring, Bringing, Brought

"to bear, or carry," is used also of "bearing or bringing forth fruit," Mar 4:8, Joh 15:5, etc. To bring is the most frequent meaning. See BEAR, CARRY, DRIVE, ENDURE, GO, LEAD, MOVE, REACH, RUSHING, UPHOLD. Compounds of No. 1, translated by the verb "to bring," are as follows:

denotes "to bring up," Mat 17:1. See BEAR, No. 3.

"to carry forth," is rendered "bring," in the AV of 1Co 16:3, Act 19:12 (RV, "carried away"); some mss. have epiphero here. See CARRY.

denotes "to bring to," Act 17:20; "to bring into," Luk 1:5-19, 1Ti 6:7, Heb 13:11. See LEAD, No. 11.

"to bring forth." See BEAR, No. 4.

signifies (a) "to bring upon, or to bring against," Jud 1:9; (b) "to impose, inflict, visit upon," Rom 3:5. Some mss. have it in Act 25:18 (for No. 1); some in Phi 1:16 (RV, Phi 1:17, "raise up," translating egeiro).

denotes "to bring forth," Luk 6:45, twice.

means (a) "to bring (in addition)," Mat 25:20; "to bring unto," Mat 5:23 (RV, "art offering"); Mar 10:13; (b) "to offer," Mat 5:24. See DEAL WITH, DO, OFFER, PRESENT, PUT.

"to bring together," has this meaning in Act 19:19. See BETTER (be), EXPEDIENT, GOOD, PROFIT.

"to lead, to lead along, to bring," has the meaning "to bring" (besides its occurrences in the Gospels and Acts) in 1Th 4:14, 2Ti 4:11, Heb 2:10. See CARRY, GO, KEEP, LEAD.

"to send forth, to bring on one's way," Act 15:3, Act 20:38, RV; Act 21:5, Rom 15:24, 1Co 16:6, 1Co 16:11, 2Co 1:16, Tit 3:13, 3Jo 1:6. See ACCOMPANY, CONDUCT.

"to bud, spring up," translated "brought forth" (i.e., "caused to produce"), in Jam 5:18. See BUD, SPRING.

"to make, to do," used of the bringing forth of fruit, Mat 3:8, Mat 3:10, Mat 1:7-18. See DO.

"to cast out," used of bringing forth good and evil things from the heart, Mat 12:35. See CAST, No. 5.

"to beget, bring forth," Mat 1:21, Mat 1:23, Mat 1:25, Jam 1:15 (first part of verse, according to the best mss.); Rev 12:5 (RV, "was delivered of"). See BEGET, BORN, DELIVER.

"to bear young," "bringeth forth" in Jam 1:15 (end of verse) and "brought forth," Jam 1:18 (AV, "begat"). See BEGET.

"to beget," translated "brought forth" in Luk 1:57. See BEGET, A, No. 1.

"to bear well, be productive," "brought forth plentifully," Luk 12:16. Cp. karpophoreo, Mar 4:20, RV "bear;" so, Col 1:6.

"to rear, bring up," Luk 4:16. See FEED, NOURISH.

"to nourish," Act 1:7-21; "brought up," Act 22:3.

"to nourish," Eph 5:29; "bring up," Eph 6:4, AV; RV, "nurture." See NURTURE.

"to announce," is translated "bring word" in Mat 2:8, RV (the AV unnecessarily adds "again"); Mat 28:8. See DECLARE, REPORT, SHEW, TELL.

lit., "a bringing in besides," is translated "a bringing in thereupon" in Heb 7:19.

Notes: (1) In Mar 4:21, erchomai, "to come," is translated "is brought," lit., "(does a lamp) come."

(2) In Mar 13:9, the verb translated "be brought," AV, is histemi, "to stand" (RV); in Act 27:24, paristemi, "to stand before" (AV, "be brought before").

(3) In Act 5:36, ginomai, "to become," is rendered "came (to nought)," RV, for AV, "were brought." So in 1Co 15:54, "come to pass," for "shall be brought to pass."

(4) In Mar 4:29, paradidomi is rendered "is ripe," RV and AV marg., for AV, "brought forth."

(5) In Mat 1:1-12, Mat 1:17, metoikesia signifies "a removal, or carrying away" (not "they were brought," Mat 1:12, AV).

(6) In Act 13:1, suntrophos denotes "a foster-brother," RV (AV, marg.).

(7) In 1Co 4:17, for "bring you into rememberance" (RV, "put ...), see REMEMERANCE.
