denoted "a mythical monster, a dragon;" also a large serpent, so called because of its keen power of sight (from a root derk, signifying "to see"). Twelve times in the Apocalypse it is used of the Devil, Rev 1:12-4, Rev 12:7, Rev 12:9, Rev 12:13, Rev 1:12-17, Rev 13:2, Rev 13:4, Rev 13:11, Rev 16:13, Rev 20:2.
