To help Bezalel perform the assignment that God had given him, the Lord blessed him with three unique abilities. Though the abilities were exceptional, they were interrelated.
1. Wisdom (hakmah) – technical skill. This was the first ability that the Lord blessed Bezalel with. It is the technological know-how to really do something. When it operates in a person, it gives them the ability to operate in their field. To a pharmacist, his technical know-how would be pharmaceutical solutions; to an architect, it would be the ability to design buildings. God gave Bezalel the practical skill to do the design work needed for the Tabernacle.
To be fruitful in any field of endeavour, we need technical skills to do the work in that field.
2. Understanding (tebuna) – capacity to think. This is the second ability that the Lord imparted to Bezalel. Every job in this world is a thinking job. Even professions that appear to be only physical are, in reality, thinking professions; boxing, athletics, music, acting, are all thinking disciplines. God enabled Bezalel to have a mental grasp of what he had to do. He had the ability to imagine all the instructions that the Lord had given to Moses. In His mind, he could see them take form.
To be fruitful in what we do, we must mentally grasp all the ideas required in that field.
3. Knowledge (da: at) – to master something. This is the third ability that God gave to Bezalel. It means to know something fully. In the context that it is used in this passage, it means to be a master over the task of designing and building the Tabernacle of God, the Ark of the Covenant and the unique instruments of worship.
Wisdom makes us master’s over what we do.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, anoint me for my assignment. I receive wisdom, understanding, and knowledge for success. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
