Scripture Reading: Judges 2
Nevertheless, the LORD raised up judges who delivered them out of the hand of those who plundered them. Judges 2:16
We can learn a lot from God’s dealings with biblical Israel. Although they were God’s people, they often disobeyed the Lord. Anytime the Whenevereyed, they would find themselves in one crisis or another. Another would cry to the Lord for help.
Whenever Israel cried for help, the Lord raised deliverers – judges – for them. The deliverers God raised for Israel were ordinary people yet, God used them to fight off their enemies. Some deliverers were timid farmers, some were housewives, others were disinherited sons and many more. Each of the deliverers did not seem like the kind of people who could help Israel, yet the Lord used them.
God has His deliverers everywhere. He has people in high places and low places. He has His people even in the camp of those who seek your destruction. Whenever He needs them, He prompts them to do what He wants them to do. He uses people to help us.
Sometimes when we are faced with formidable opposition, we tend to feel surrounded on all sides. It appears as if everywhere we turn there are people who want to do us harm. Israel felt that way sometimes.
On several occasions, Israel’s enemies would come in to take the products of their land from them. They would work so hard and then when it was time to enjoy the fruits of their labour, very powerful enemies would come in to dispossess them of their hard-earned reward. The Bible calls such enemies, plunderers. Whenever a plunderer comes against you, trust the Lord to raise up a deliverer for you.
If the Lord needs to raise judges to deliver you, He will. If He needs to raise people with political clout to defend you against unjust treatment, He will. If He needs to raise a taxi driver to protect you, He will.
When it comes to defending His own, the Lord has enormous capacity that can be deployed on your behalf. Don’t panic. He will get you.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, you are my deliverer. I trust you to raise the right kind of deliverers for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen
