And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. —

John 1:16

Jesus Christ fully embodied grace. Verse 17 tells us that while the Law came through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. The Law refers to God’s written rules to Israel. The Law focuses on standards and code of behaviour. Grace, on the other hand, is God’s unmerited favour. It is God’s undeserved goodwill towards us. It is God’s generosity and willingness to share our lives with us.

Grace is what planned our salvation. 2 Timothy 1:9 talks about God “who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,” Grace was not an afterthought. God anticipated man’s fall before time began. In all His dealings with man, God prepares for any mistake before we make it. Verse 16 says that of the fullness of Christ, we have all received. This shows that grace is not selective. Titus 2:11 confirms this, “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,” The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ can abound to anyone – young, old, rich, poor, female, male, black or white. No one is ‘unsavable’. By grace, we get what we don’t deserve.

Grace for grace means we have all received different levels and dimensions of grace. For instance, the grace for salvation is one level. We have also received the grace for Holy Ghost baptism, the grace for healing and the grace for prosperity. We have received the fullness of Christ by grace.

Prayer:

Lord, I thank You that because of grace, You chose to love me even when I was unlovable.
