“You are my flock, the flock of my pasture; you are men, and I am your God,” says the Lord GOD. –

Ezekiel 34: 31

The Lord is our shepherd. We are His flock. Although we are human beings, God uses the relationship between a shepherd and his flock to paint us a picture of His relationship with us.

He leads us. He helps us find our way in life as we walk into unknown places and situations. He helps us make the right decisions when we are faced with confusing choices. He guides us by the light of His Word with wisdom and insight.

He keeps us. He protects us from the wild beasts of prey who want to tear us apart and devour our flesh. He moves our feet away from the traps that have been set for us to ensnare us. He watches over us even when we are asleep.

He feeds us. He makes provision for us even when there is scarcity all around us. God is not limited by the resources available to us. He has unlimited provisions available. He knows where the resources we need are hidden and can lead us to them. He knows the kind of pasture to lead His flock to.

Our response is to trust Him and obey His voice. That requires yielding our will and ways to Him. We are individuals and each possesses a sovereign will which He will not violate. He will not force us to serve Him; He only takes the lead when we hold His hand and ask Him to take the lead.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, shepherd of my soul, be my guide, helper and provider.
