In all labor there is profit, But idle chatter leads only to poverty. —

Proverbs 14:23

The dignity of labour is the philosophy that all types of jobs should be respected equally. No occupation is considered superior and no job should be discriminated against on any basis. In the words of Martin Luther King Jnr., “All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.” Whatever honest business you find to do, do it with diligence, excellence and total commitment. Do not despise it or regard it as demeaning or below your level.

The job or role you despise today could become the conduit for God’s blessing or the platform for exaltation to your place of desire. Over the years, I have seen God bless people from different fields of endeavour. God blesses pilots, barbers, lawyers, pastors, chiefs, farmers, taxi drivers, politicians, tax collectors, musicians, fishermen, doctors and real estate dealers. Whatever work you do, allow God’s wisdom to make it flourish.

Ecclesiastes 10:7 says, “I have seen servants on horses, while princes walk on the ground like servants.” The ways of God are beyond our comprehension. That is why a person who manages human waste can grow his or her endeavour into a thriving company and employ a lawyer, engineer or accountant to work for them. When you choose to sit at home, engage in idle talk and call yourself unemployed, you will continue to wallow in poverty and end up disillusioned. When you choose, instead, to invest your wisdom and diligence in seemingly ordinary tasks, you could end up becoming an extraordinary player at the very top of your field.

Prayer:

Lord, I receive Your favour upon the work of my hands.
