God’s Word warns us.
Can you imagine life without warnings? What if electrical installations had no warnings or highways had no warnings for drivers and pedestrians? Without warnings, our lives are precariously exposed to danger and destruction. Avoidable catastrophes will assail us at every turn if no one cares to warn of us of the dangers facing us.
God’s Word is a warning signpost for us. The instruction of the Word warns us of dangers ahead of our pilgrim journey. There’s no better guide for us than the Lord Himself, speaking to us through the stories of His encounters with those who lived before us. As we read the Bible, we see the hand of the Lord holding them and pointing the way for them. May we heed the Bible’s warnings.
God’s Word is our reward.
Does cherishing God’s Word and living by what it says lead to boredom? I can excuse a person who does not know Christ as Lord who thinks that way. But for anyone who has enjoyed the freedom of God’s gift of salvation, the conclusion should be very different from that of the unsaved.
The testimony of the Bible is the testimony of people who lived the most extraordinary lives because they took God at His Word. A family man was able to save his family and other living creatures simply because he took God’s warning seriously. That’s quite an amazing life; to step out of a boat you built under God’s instruction and find out that only what you were able to protect survived a global catastrophe.
What about a teenager who went out to defeat the most dreaded warrior of his day, simply by believing that God was mightier than the giant? Isn’t that an amazing life? We can think of a widow woman who had run out of all food supplies during a very severe drought. Just when she thought death had caught up with she and her son, the Word of God came to her. By obeying the Word, she and her son enjoyed God’s supernatural supply at a time when so many were unable to cope. These stories illustrate the reward we receive for obeying God’s Word
May the Word of God warn us of danger and reward our obedience.
