Meaning

Alone (Let Alone)

denotes "single, alone, solitary," Mat 4:4, etc. See ONLY, SELF.

the neuter of A, meaning "only, exclusively," e.g., Rom 4:23, Act 19:26, is translated "alone" in the AV of Joh 17:20; RV, "only." See ONLY.

signifies "apart, in private, alone," Mar 4:10, Luk 9:18. Some texts have the phrase as one word.

signifies "to send away, set free;" also "to let alone," Mat 15:14, Mar 14:6, Luk 13:8, Joh 11:48, Joh 12:7 (RV, "suffer her"); in Act 5:38 some texts have easate from eao, "to permit." See CRY, FORGIVE, FORSAKE, LAY, Note (2), LEAVE, LET, OMIT, PUT, No. 16, Note, REMIT, SEND, SUFFER, YIELD.

Notes: (1) The phrase kath' heauten means "by (or in) itself," Jam 2:17, RV, for AV, "being alone" (see AV, marg.).
