Swaddling clothes <1,,4683, sparganoo>

"to swathe" (from sparganon, "a swathing band"), signifies "to wrap in swaddling clothes" in Luk 2:7, Luk 2:12. The idea that the word means "rags" is without foundation. In the Sept., Job 38:9, Eze 16:4.
