αἴτιος, -α, -ον, that in which the cause of anything resides, causative, causing. Hence, 1.ὁαἴτιοςthe author: σωτηρίας, Hebrews 5:9 (the same phrase is frequent in secular writings; cf. the opposite αἰ. τῆςἀπωλείας in Bel and the Dragon, verse 41; τῶνκακῶν, 2 Macc. 13:4; Lucian, Tim. 36, Lipsius edition; τῶνἀγαθῶν, Isocr. ad Phil. 49, p. 106 a.; cf.
