καταισχύνω kataischýnō, kat-ahee-skhoo'-no; from G2596 and G153; to shame down, i.e. disgrace or (by implication) put to the blush:—confound, dishonour, (be a-, make a-)shame(-d).
The KJV translates Strong's G2617 in the following manner: ashamed (7x), confound (3x), dishonour (2x), shame (1x).

one is said to be put to shame who suffers a repulse, or whom some hope has deceived
